Periodontal Maintenance and Preservation – The Foundation for Long-Term Gum Health

Periodontal treatment does not end with the completion of surgery or initial treatment. In fact, the maintenance phase is the most important part of preserving results over time. After gum inflammation or bone recession has been treated, only regular follow-up and maintenance treatment can prevent recurrence of the disease and maintain the health of the gums and teeth.
During maintenance visits, an accurate assessment of the gum condition is performed, thorough cleaning of tartar and bacterial plaque above and below the gum line, and if necessary, targeted treatments in sensitive areas. In addition, brushing technique is examined, correct use of interdental cleaning aids, and the patient receives personalized guidance for optimal maintenance of oral hygiene at home.

Periodontal maintenance is designed not only to preserve treatment results, but also to identify new problems early – such as recurrent inflammation, tooth movement, or changes around implants. Early detection allows for simpler treatment and prevents irreversible damage to the tissues supporting the teeth and implants.
The frequency of visits is determined individually according to risk level, but it is generally recommended to come every 3-6 months. Consistent maintenance of maintenance visits combined with proper daily hygiene allows maintaining a healthy and stable smile for many years.
